Snow King Repaving: Because Potholes Weren’t Exciting Enough

Starting this week, Snow King Avenue is getting a much-needed facelift. Translation: Two weeks of orange cones, heavy machinery, and you questioning every life decision that led you to drive this stretch of road during construction season.

The Town of Jackson and its contractors will be grinding, milling, and paving their way from Flat Creek Drive to Scott Lane between Sept. 22–26. Then, weather gods permitting, they’ll take on Snow King from Vine to Cache Sept. 29–Oct. 3. Striping will happen in phases after that, which means just when you think it’s over, it’s not.

What You Need to Know (and Probably Ignore Anyway)

Sections: First up, Flat Creek to Virginian, then Virginian to Scott. Second round is Vine to Cache.
Access: Cars should find alternate routes. Broadway is your friend (for once). Locals, buses, bikes, and pedestrians still get through, but expect detours and the occasional “you can’t get there from here” shrug from a contractor.
Sidewalks: Open, but maybe don’t text and walk while dodging dump trucks.
Buses & Schools: START and TCSD are in on the plan, so don’t panic if your kid’s bus driver suddenly looks like they’re auditioning for a rally car circuit.

Why Bother?

Snow King Avenue is the second most traveled east-west connector in town. For years, the Town’s approach has been “duct tape and good intentions,” patching random potholes until the road looked like a badly sewn quilt. This time they’re going all-in, repaving the entire thing so it actually feels like a road again, not a lunar surface.

Oh, and the Map…

Yes, the Town really did post that image with giant yellow arrows pointing vaguely at downtown like a toddler drew it with a crayon. We can only assume the graphic designer was either working with Microsoft Paint circa 1999 or trying out for Pictionary. Either way, it’s proof that not all public funds go toward glossy marketing campaigns.

So buckle up, Jackson, it’s construction season (again). Consider this your reminder to leave for work five minutes earlier, embrace detours, and maybe even walk somewhere for once.
