Kayce Dutton Might Be Saddling Up Again — This Time on CBS

Hold onto your cowboy hats, Yellowstone fans, it looks like another spinoff could be riding into town. According to Variety, CBS is in early talks to develop a new Yellowstone-inspired series, and guess who might be leading the charge? Yep, Luke Grimes could be back in the saddle as Kayce Dutton.

Now, before you start planning your watch parties, let’s pump the brakes a bit. Plot details are still under tight wraps (classic Taylor Sheridan), and nothing’s officially signed yet. But here’s the fun part: the new series is said to be a procedural, which means we could see Kayce going full cowboy cop, possibly drawing from his past work as a livestock commissioner. Think Yellowstone meets NCIS: Montana, just with more horses and less tech jargon.

As with the rest of the Dutton-verse, this project would be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, not CBS Studios. So while it’s airing on CBS, it’ll still carry that signature Sheridan grit and drama.

This would be the latest addition to the ever-expanding Yellowstone universe. After the original show wrapped up its wild ride in late 2024, fans got news of a new series centered on fan-favorites Rip and Beth (played by Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly), currently in development. Then there’s the prequel parade: 1883, the raw frontier saga with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and 1923, the roaring, rugged installment with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, which is now into its second season.

Oh, and don’t forget The Madison, a new sibling series starring Michelle Pfeiffer, adding a splash of glam to the West.

As for Kayce, the last time we saw him, he had just sold the Yellowstone Ranch to Thomas Rainwater and the Broken Rock Reservation for the historic rate of $1.25 per acre, the same price his ancestors paid. Don’t worry, though, he kept a slice of paradise to live on with his family. If this new show moves forward, we may get to see what comes next for him, whether he’s wrangling cattle, criminals, or both.
