Kalshi Becomes Wyoming’s “Sixth” Betting App, But With a Twist

Move over DraftKings, FanDuel, and the rest of the sportsbook herd, Wyoming has a new kid on the block. Kalshi, the federally regulated prediction market, just expanded its football offerings, effectively making it the sixth legal sports betting option in the Cowboy State.

Legal Sports Betting Apps in Wyoming:

  1. DraftKings
  2. FanDuel
  3. BetMGM
  4. Caesars
  5. Fanatics
  6. Kalshi – (more legal prediction market than sportsbook)

From Preseason Plays to Full-On Football

Kalshi dipped its toes in the NFL preseason pool by letting folks trade contracts on who would win each game. That little experiment saw about $9 million in volume over just two weeks. Now they’re going bigger: adding spreads, totals, and touchdown props to their trading floor.

Translation: Kalshi just went from “cute preseason side hustle” to “legit competitor for sportsbooks” almost overnight.

Of course, this is America, so naturally, lawyers are involved. Courts in Nevada and New Jersey say Kalshi falls under the feds (CFTC), not state gaming commissions. Maryland’s District Court, on the other hand, says “not so fast.”

For now, Kalshi sits in a legal no-man’s-land, still operating, still growing, and still waiting for the final whistle on whether prediction markets are gambling or a new category altogether.

Kalshi is more than just sports. I recently reported that they offer a betting market for the 2026 Wyoming gubernatorial race.

Why Sportsbooks Still Have the Edge

Don’t expect DraftKings and friends to sweat just yet. Sportsbooks still offer way more player props (think: passing yards, sacks, receptions) and the holy grail of modern betting, parlays.

Kalshi’s touchdown props are nice, but until they let you parlay a Cowboys win with a Travis Kelce anytime TD and a Taylor Swift sighting in the luxury suite, the sportsbooks remain king of the hill.

The Big Boys Are Watching

Still, don’t think for a second the big operators are ignoring this. DraftKings CEO Jason Robins recently said they’re “actively exploring ways to enhance shareholder value” in the prediction market space. That’s CEO-speak for: “If this thing sticks, we’re jumping in too.”

Wyoming’s Betting Landscape Expands (Again)

For Wyomingites, this is just another quirky addition to the most wide-open betting market in the country. With Kalshi joining the mix, we now have six ways to gamble on football legally, from the sportsbook apps to a federal prediction market.

In other words: If you can’t find action in Wyoming, you’re just not looking.
