Protect Public Land Protests Planned for Jackson Saturday, June 28

Date:

A growing chorus of outdoor lovers, conservationists, and everyday Americans is rallying against what many are calling the largest public land sell-off in modern history. And Jackson Hole is on the front lines.

On Saturday, June 28, from 10 AM to 1 PM at Jackson Town Square (25 E Broadway Ave.), locals will gather as part of the Protect Public Land national day of protest. Organized events will simultaneously take place in 12 other cities, including Anchorage, San Diego, Denver, Santa Fe, and Seattle.

What’s This All About?

Tucked into what lawmakers have dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” is language that reclassifies up to 258 million acres of public land as “disposable.” Worse, 2–3.3 million acres are already slated for forced sale, a move critics say is not just reckless, but a betrayal of America’s conservation legacy.

“This land is your land. This land is my land,” reads one rallying cry. “Our government is about to auction off the places we love.”

According to The Wilderness Society, a staggering portion of land in the West, including swaths of Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, and California, would be eligible for sale under the current bill language. An interactive map shows just how widespread the impact could be.

A Peaceful Protest with Purpose

Organizers stress that all events are peaceful and weapon-free, regardless of local open carry laws. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs, invite friends, and peacefully demand the preservation of our public lands.

This is more than politics—this is about legacy. The outdoors isn’t red or blue. It’s alpine lakes, high desert, trailheads, fishing holes, wildflowers, and freedom.

A Note on Timing… and Irony

This protest comes just months after the federal government slashed jobs in the National Park Service, citing budget constraints, despite those same parks seeing record visitation and economic impact.

Now, many are asking: Why is an administration so publicly supported by outdoor-loving Westerners pushing policies that cut park staff… and quietly pave the way to sell off public lands?
