Wildfire Updates for Jackson Hole - Horse Fire and Ski Fire

Two active wildfires are worth keeping an eye on this week across the region:

🔥 Horse Fire (Bridger-Teton National Forest – Big Piney Ranger District)

Size: Estimated at 899 acres
Containment: 6%
Cause: Under investigation
Fire Behavior: Actively spotting and torching
Resources: 122 personnel on scene, including Hot Shot crews, helicopters, and engines
Strategy: Full suppression, using natural barriers and meadows for control lines near Prospect Peak

🚧 Closures in Effect (Through July 31, unless lifted earlier):

Starts at Forest Road 10389 (Horse Creek Rd)
Extends through Trail 2080 (Maki Creek), Forest Roads 10653 & 10125, and up to the Lincoln/Sublette County line
Open routes: FS Trail 2080 (Maki Creek) and FS Roads 10653, 10125 remain accessible

📈 Fire Danger: Moderate
Meaning fires can start from most accidental causes, especially on windy days with dry fuel. Be smart with campfires and anything with a spark.

🔥 Ski Fire (Near Ski Lake on Teton Pass)

The Ski Fire is contained!

The 1/5-acre fire was burning near Ski Lake on the Jackson Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton and visible from Jackson, WY. 10 firefighters, 1 fire engine, and a Type 3 helicopter took suppressive actions to attack the fire and get it contained. pic.twitter.com/lDKxm2eY5x

Visible From: Town of Jackson
Status: Firefighters began suppression on June 16
Location: Burning in subalpine fir near Ski Lake
Closures: None at this time
