Historic Horse Racing Dominates Once Again

Historic Horse Racing (HHR) machines, the slot-like terminals found across the state, continued to anchor Wyoming’s gambling economy, generating a staggering $222.4 million handle in August.

  • Top Operators: Wyoming Downs led with $82.2 million, closely followed by Wyoming Horse Racing’s $81.7 million.
  • The state collected $555,975 in taxes from HHR play, alongside additional distributions to local governments and the LSRA (Local Share Revenue Account).

Together, these forms contributed more than $25,000 in state and breeder funds.

Online Sports Betting Surges Ahead of Football Season

After a slower summer, Wyoming’s sports betting apps saw renewed momentum in August, totaling $15.5 million in wagers statewide, the highest monthly figure since March.

Skill-Based Amusement Games Generate $590K in Taxes

$3 Billion Handle?

Year-to-date, Wyoming gaming has surpassed $1.8 billion in total handle, spanning horse racing, skill games, and online wagering. While Historic Horse Racing still accounts for the lion’s share, online betting is clearly the state’s most dynamic growth sector. With four months of reporting still to come, Wyoming appears to be destined to break the all-time handle record with $3 billion in wagering possible by the end of 2025.
