New Leadership, New Laws: Dr. Scott Crisp Steps In as Interim Superintendent of TCSD

Date:

The Teton County School District (TCSD) has officially named Dr. Scott Crisp as interim superintendent for the 2025–2026 school year. A familiar face to many in the community, Dr. Crisp has been a dedicated educator and leader within the district since 1998.

He began his TCSD career as a history teacher at Jackson Hole High School before eventually serving as principal at both Summit Innovations School and Jackson Hole High School, the latter for 14 years. For the past two years, he has held the role of Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.

His appointment comes as the TCSD Board of Trustees prepares to launch a national search for a permanent superintendent. That process will begin with trustees considering a Request for Proposals (RFP) at their May 21 board meeting to bring in a national search firm. The Board also plans to host a summer retreat to solidify its vision and goals for future district leadership.

Board Chair Betsy Carlin expressed strong support for the decision, praising not only Dr. Crisp’s experience but also the professionalism and caliber of all the internal candidates who stepped forward. “We are excited to work with Scott and the other leaders in our district to ensure we hire the best superintendent for our district, our employees, families, but most importantly, for our students,” she said.

Dr. Crisp will step into the interim role with a focus on continuity and progress. He’ll be charged with implementing the Board-approved TCSD Strategic Plan, which includes:

  • Advocating for fair and adequate school funding during a critical year of statewide recalibration.
  • Listening and learning from students, families, staff, and community partners to assess district strengths and areas of growth.
  • Supporting school-level goals while expanding personalized, real-world learning opportunities.
  • Prioritizing safety for both students and staff, a topic receiving added attention this year due to new legislation.
  • Enhancing two-way communication within the district and with the broader Jackson Hole community.

One particularly pressing item on his agenda: ensuring the district is prepared for a major state law change taking effect July 1, which impacts concealed carry and access to public facilities, including schools. Learn more about the new law and how it may affect local schools here.

Dr. Crisp emphasized his commitment to the foundational values of public education, stating, “Teaching is the profession that makes all other professions possible. I’ll continue working to make TCSD a place where students thrive, educators feel supported, and families are engaged.”

During the interim year, the assistant superintendent position will remain vacant.

With seasoned leadership in place and a search for the future underway, TCSD appears well-positioned to navigate the upcoming school year with stability and purpose.
