Trump $1 Coin? Treasury Floats Bold Design for America’s 250th

Date:

The U.S. Treasury Department has unveiled draft designs for a Donald Trump $1 commemorative coin that could be released as part of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.

A Bold Design

The proposed coin features:

  • Front (obverse): a profile portrait of Trump.
  • Back (reverse): Trump raising a clenched fist in front of an American flag with the phrase “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.”

The design clearly draws inspiration from the iconic photo of Trump being escorted off stage after the July 2024 assassination attempt, a moment that became one of the most widely circulated political images of the century.

U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach shared the images online, writing:

“No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real. Looking forward to sharing more soon …”

Trump $1 Coin

Putting a living president on U.S. currency has long been considered off-limits, both by tradition and by law. Critics argue this move pushes the boundary between national commemoration and political propaganda.

Supporters, however, say the coin symbolizes American resilience and is a fitting tribute for the semiquincentennial.

Next Steps

The design is only a draft, not yet approved. Congress has already authorized special coin designs for the 250th anniversary under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, but the Trump proposal is still subject to review, and the current government shutdown could delay decisions.
