Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Extends Summer Season — Because Winter Can Wait (Apparently)

Date:

In a move sure to delight late-season hikers, leaf peepers, and anyone not emotionally ready to trade hiking boots for ski boots, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) announced it’s stretching out summer for one more week.

From Monday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 12, the Bridger Gondola will keep spinning from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering access to sightseeing, hiking, and that all-important mountaintop restroom at Rendezvous Lodge. (Because nature’s beauty is best appreciated on a full bladder, not an anxious one.)

The Aerial Tram, however, will remain closed for maintenance and inspections — translation: it’s getting its annual check-up before ski season madness begins. So, no “Big Red” selfies this week, but you can still pretend you’re scaling the Alps on the Via Ferrata or floating above Teton Village with paragliding.

For the less adventurous, the Tram Dock restaurant at the base of the Tram will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., serving up food, drinks, and the best people-watching in the valley.

Tickets can be snagged at the gondola ticket office, Jackson Hole Sports, or the Resort Store on Town Square, because nothing says “mountain adventure” like waiting in line behind someone buying a $70 beanie.

The Gondola will take a brief pause on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to make way for the International Commission for Alpine Rescue Practical Day — a global gathering of rescue pros who spend their time saving the rest of us from our “it looked easier on Instagram” hiking decisions.

So if you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer in Jackson Hole, JHMR’s giving you one last week to soak it up — preferably with a beer in one hand and a gondola ticket in the other.

Pro Tip: Bring layers. It’s that magical time of year when you’ll be sweating on the hike up and shivering on the gondola ride down.
