Whether you’re a long-time local, a brand-new transplant, or just passing through for a week, Jackson has no shortage of ways to roll up your sleeves and give back. Volunteering isn’t just about filling a need; it’s about experiencing the real heart of the community and the spirit that keeps this valley thriving.
The Community Foundation of Jackson Hole keeps a comprehensive list of organizations always looking for a helping hand (Volunteer JH). A quick search will uncover even more. But to get you started, here are some of the best current opportunities:
Teton Literacy Center
Over 30 students were on the waitlist for tutoring last year. TLC pairs each volunteer with one student for the school year, helping them grow, thrive, and find confidence in their reading. They’re especially looking for K–12 Literacy Tutors and adult ESL Small Group Leads.
Grand Teton National Park Stewardship Volunteers
Get your hands dirty (but in the most scenic way possible). Projects vary week to week, from trail work to habitat restoration. Open to all ages and abilities, with tools provided. Sessions happen most Thursdays at 9 AM, RSVP to confirm.
Jackson Hole Therapeutic Riding Association
This program helps kids with extra needs through the magic of horseback riding. Volunteers assist with lessons, no horse experience necessary, since training is provided. All you need is enthusiasm.
Girl Scouts of America – Troop Leader
As a former Jackson Scout, I can attest, this program builds lasting friendships and confidence. Becoming a troop leader is one of the most rewarding ways to invest in the next generation.
Cycling Without Age
Still in its pilot phase, “Cycling Without Age” teams up with Sage Living residents to get elders outside via walks, wheelchair outings, and simple companionship. It’s less about the miles and more about the stories shared along the way.
Teton Raptor Center
If you’ve ever wanted to work alongside hawks, owls, and eagles, this is your chance. TRC welcomes volunteers of all abilities and interests. Education, animal care, event support—you name it.
Spread the Love
This group makes sure people in the valley have access to essential health and hygiene products. Volunteers help staff booths, connect with the community, and prep shipments for partner programs across the country.
PAWS / Animal Adoption Center
Love dogs? (Of course you do.) Fostering pups through PAWS or the Driggs shelter means providing temporary homes until they’re adopted. Bonus: free dog therapy, which is arguably the best kind.
Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation
From pulling invasive weeds to moose surveying, this JHWF offers hands-on roles that directly impact local conservation. If you want to literally leave the valley better than you found it, this is your stop.
One22 Resource Center
Help stock shelves and distribute food at the Jackson Cupboard, where access to groceries makes all the difference for families in need. Volunteers should be ready for some lifting (25–50 lbs.) and a fast-paced environment.
Hole Food Rescue
Part food recovery, part community lifeline, this program fights both food insecurity and waste. Volunteers help collect, sort, and redistribute food, keeping good meals out of the landfill and onto local tables.
People Spread Love
This creative nonprofit hosts monthly card-making events to brighten lives near and far. You can join in person, or craft cards at home and send them along. It’s a small act with big impact.
💡 Why It Matters
There are countless ways to lend a hand in Jackson. Whether you’re tutoring a student, leading a troop, or walking alongside an elder, your time and effort ripple outward, strengthening the very fabric of the valley. Volunteering here doesn’t just support the community, it connects you to it.
