UPDATE: 8/22/25 from BTNF Facebook notes

The Dollar Lake Fire will transition to a type 3 incident command team. The fire was held east of Green River Road overnight with burn operations. The plan for today is to keep the fire east of the road and scout potential line locations to east and north.

The Dollar Lake Fire was discovered at Dollar Lake in the Green River Lakes area of the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest on Aug. 21. The size of the fire is currently estimated at 1,388-acres and the cause is undetermined. The fire is burning in timber.

The Dollar Lake Fire on the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest has rapidly grown to approximately 600 acres, forcing evacuations and road closures near Green River Lakes.

According to the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, evacuation orders are in effect for the Dollar Lake and Green River Lakes area. The Green River Lakes Road off Highway 352 is closed to the public to allow fire crews access.

Fire Ignites, Spreads Quickly

The fire was first reported Thursday afternoon and spread with alarming speed through heavy timber. Officials warn that fire danger in the region is currently rated “very high”, meaning new fires can ignite easily and spread rapidly. The exact cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

Emergency Response Underway

Fire crews from the Forest Service and Sublette County are on scene, supported by multiple helicopters and aviation resources. Photos from the U.S. Forest Service show towering smoke plumes visible for miles across western Wyoming. Sublette County residents reported streams of campers and vehicles evacuating the area.

Recreation Disruptions

The Green River Lakes area is a popular spot for camping, hiking, and fishing in late summer. With the evacuation and closure order in place, access is restricted until further notice. Officials are urging the public to avoid the area entirely and keep roads clear for emergency vehicles.

Nearby Fire: Little Greys

The Dollar Lake Fire is not the only active blaze on the Bridger-Teton. The Little Greys Fire on the Greys River Ranger District is estimated at around 39 acres. Crews are working on containment lines there, aided by helicopters and air tankers.

Safety Reminder

Stage 1 fire restrictions remain in effect across much of the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Officials urge visitors to follow restrictions closely, stay alert to changing fire conditions, and report any new smoke sightings immediately.
