Fish Creek Bridge Work to Begin Near Wilson — Expect a Detour into Early November

Date:

Heads up, Wilson commuters — WYDOT and crews from Reiman Corp are set to begin work on the Fish Creek Bridge along Wyoming Highway 22 starting Monday, October 20.

The good news: for now, both lanes of traffic will remain open while crews prep the site. The less-good news: a full bridge closure and detour are coming November 3, lasting up to 10 days (though WYDOT hopes to wrap it sooner).

🏗️ The Plan

  • Initial work begins: Monday, Oct. 20
  • Full bridge closure & detour: Begins Nov. 3
  • Estimated duration: Up to 10 days (14 days allowed by contract)
  • Detour route: See the map above — expect one-way traffic loops and flaggers at key intersections.
  • Reason for closure: Milling, grading, and paving to keep the bridge safe and smooth before winter.

WYDOT and Reiman Corp have coordinated to delay the detour until after Halloween to keep trick-or-treaters safe, a rare government move driven by actual common sense.

During the closure, flaggers will be posted at West Street, Main Street, and near the elementary school during drop-off and pick-up hours to help manage congestion.

🚦 What Drivers Can Expect

Locals should plan for slower travel times, particularly during morning and afternoon commutes. Those passing through Wilson for coffee or groceries might want to budget a few extra minutes — or embrace a scenic detour around Fish Creek.

When complete, the project will improve the bridge’s safety and longevity — meaning fewer potholes and fewer grumbles on your next drive over the Pass.
